Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Relationship.

We present a dare for partners in committed relationships who are fans of horror films: Sit down with your partner and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its online premiere via Hulu. On the surface, it may seem like typical biological terror, but beneath Together exists a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love each other.

A Directorial Debut Investigating Partnership Complexities

Together marks the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for over ten years. Having wed in real life in 2017, the two stars contribute a unique chemistry to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the good and bad of a enduring union.

The story commences when the couple transition from the big city to the rural area for Millie’s job. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s primarily where the tropes cease. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and the two discover an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a mysterious influence begins influencing the couple. This force induces a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past simple connection.

The complete narrative is a slow burn of scares, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, gross (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes amidst something horrific). The director skillfully blends these components neatly and delivers them in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his reluctance to chase only his failing musical ambitions gradually emerges.

In contrast, Tim's character senses confinement and cut off by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve relocated rural and far away from his social circle. He fears the concept of completely losing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in Together never makes either of his characters the definite antagonist.

Both characters face the kind of problems that arise in long-term unions over a long period. Deep down, they have affection for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and are vulnerable at times. But beneath it all, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of excessive reliance and fully committing to another person, the allegory avoids being clumsy or self-important. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a ideal counterpart to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. On the other hand, some couples who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to resolve their issues.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own interpretation could function as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the finale inspire anxiety and horror, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply turn to your other half and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can experience at this very moment.

Together is currently playing on Hulu's platform at present.
