The artist has given the entirety of his £25k award prize money to the MVT, which works to protect the Britain's grassroots music venues.

Fender was awarded the award on mid-October as his latest record his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the past year.

The musician has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part small stages played in his beginning days.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing this success if it wasn't for all the shows I played around the North East, and beyond, when I was just getting going," said Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have shut down – about 16% of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the Music Venues Trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits local stages.

Sam Fender also took part, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to assist numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The money supported spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties arising from flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted financial assistance in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that helped artists and fans.

"The concept that funds from performances in big venues backs the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just common sense," the star has commented.

Fender is among several artists to give his award winnings to worthy causes.

When they received the trophy in the mid-90s for their record the album, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the group would donate their winnings to the organization the charity.

In 2002, artist Ms Dynamite shared her prize among multiple charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I gave a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they required better apparatus," the artist shared with outlets.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective contributed their funds to the local youth club that nurtured their act, as well as other local music groups.

And 1994 winners they contributed their prize to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," remarked artist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the honor. So our success touched the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had protected a couple of grassroots venues in that region, by bringing them into local control.

The first in Southampton and the other in the city were bought under the community ownership program, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
