Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
