Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd close behind.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group access areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the other eight players to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can expect discovering which players will be where in the season’s last Overture episode, available to watch on October 24.
